Why Having a Home Inspection During a Rainstorm is a Great Idea
A rainstorm can help you see more faults in a house
As home inspectors, we pride ourselves on being thorough and detailed in all of our inspections. We carefully evaluate everything we can about a home to make sure the buyer is as well-informed as possible on the condition of the property, so they can make an informed decision about their purchase.
Yet houses change all the time, and there are some things that a normal home inspection can’t cover, or that we as inspectors can’t anticipate. For example, it’s hard to see how a house will perform under different weather conditions. As inspectors, we may be able to see the guttering is lacking, and we can tell you that it would be advisable to have better gutters in order to prevent water damage to the house. But it’s only in a rainstorm could we actually witness how the house handles rain.
Surely you wouldn’t want to schedule a home inspection in a rainstorm though, right? Well…. actually, yes! For these reasons, having a home inspection during a rainstorm is a great idea. We don’t mind getting a little wet if that means we can get a better inspection of the house, and you can see for yourself how well the house stands to weather conditions. Are there any places that leak? Are the windows and doors well-sealed? Does the yard flood? Is the roof holding up?
So don’t cancel your home inspection if it starts raining! If the weather causes us to be incapable of completing the entire inspection, we can reschedule. But otherwise, our professional home inspectors are always up for a little challenge.
