Our Homes Waste Energy

U.S. homes waste enormous amounts of energy, more than any other country on the planet. Reports by InterNachi state that 30% of the energy we use to heat, cool, and operate our homes is wasted. This can be for a variety of reasons: outdated systems, non-energy efficient appliances and light-bulbs, insufficient insulation, and even inadequate windows and window coverings.

Newer Homes Tend to be Energy Efficient

Newer homes are built with energy efficiency in mind. But older homes really miss the mark, especially if they are outdated. The good news is that even if a home is outdated and thereby falling short of energy efficiency standards, much can be done to improve its standing. Some recommendations might be as simple as changing light-bulbs, while others will be more cost and time intensive.

Wasting Energy is Wasting Money

Why throw money down the drain, especially when you can get a full energy report, complete with cost savings analysis, and recommendations for improvements? The estimated figures on how much a single household loses yearly is mind blowing.

We know that out of the 130 million homes in the U.S., 80 million were built between 1980 and 2000, which means that they pre-date modern energy standards and are associated with higher energy use and operating costs per square foot. We also know that the average American household spends about $2,500 on energy every year.  But what most homeowners don’t know is that about 30% of that energy--and 30% of that money--is wasted. — Sourced from InterNachi

Every Home Buyer Needs an Energy Report

We think every home buyer should walk into a property with eyes wide open - especially when it comes to how much the home will cost to live in. What we’ve decided is that every client of Forever Home Inspection can opt into a FREE HOME ENERGY REPORT! Every report will estimate a home's energy costs and provide recommendations on how to save energy, increase comfort, and protect the environment.

Why Give Free Energy Reports?

It’s simple, as of December 2019 we’ve inspected just under 1,000 homes. Imagine the impact we could have had for our community had we given 1,000 energy reports away? We believe we can make a big impact for our community, and for the next generation, by doing our part in helping to improve this planet. We figure it’s the least we can do, and we hope to see big waves of change through our small efforts one home at a time.
